Dinner

The Railroad Tunnel

Jessica made us pancakes and eggs for breakfast. It was delicious and a treat to have a warm breakfast. But we did leave early when Jessica needed to be somewhere, so it was a win-win.
The morning had ups and downs, and as the morning usually goes, it was uneventful. During lunch, we stopped at a trailhead, which led to an eight-hundred tunnel that used to be for trains.  It wasn't far from the trailhead, so we rode our bikes on the gravel trail.  Once we were halfway through the tunnel, it got so dark that not one of us could see the ground beneath our wheels.  It also didn't help my dad's and Henry's case that they still were wearing sunglasses, but they didn't know that until they had gone through the tunnel back to the trailhead!  But the only thing that kept us riding straight was the light at the end of the tunnel, and we followed that beacon of light.
We trudged on, one pedal at a time, getting super tired with all the hills.  It was maybe a little less than a mile at the entrance to our planned campsite for the night, but it had steep downhills. When we got to our campsite, no one else was there.  Well, we figured out why.  There was no water, electricity, or showers, and we were out of water too!  So we went back up the steep hill but had to stop to let some people with boats pass us.  So, halfway up the hill, we're wondering if we can get going again and clip in before we lose our balance!  Of course, Henry, with his explosive power, gunned it with my dad not far behind him.  I just coasted down the hill to get clipped in and turned back around, facing the cruel, steep hill.
So, we went six more miles to another campsite, where we could stay for free, with electricity, water, and showers!  But on the way, we saw the ferry that would take us across the Ohio River into Kentucky.
While setting up our tent, I forgot the tent poles and returned to get them.  When I returned, a frog jumped on top of the tent and sat there like a king.  I tried knocking it off, but it wouldn't budge until after a few swipes.
We had showers later and cookies that my grandma had baked for us. They were smashed, but they tasted the same.  Then we went to bed when the sun went down because we had arrived late that night.
