The Seagull That Visited Us During Lunch

Our Wet Campsite

We left early; the only thing we had to eat was bagels.  We could've had granola, but we didn't wash the dishes since we didn't have enough water.  So, we headed to the closest town, twenty-two miles away.  Along the way, we met a man named Jan who was doing the Trans am from East To West.  He told us we could get into the hot springs for fifteen extra dollars each if we got a hotel room for one hundred-thirty rather than paying fifty dollars each.  So, we debated, and when we looked it up, it turned out that you could get a hotel room for that price, but the maximum occupancy was two!  So, that was out of the question.  At Walden, we ate a late breakfast, filled up on water, and left.
When we stopped for lunch, a seagull was fifteen feet away, waiting for food.  It cocked its head at us and eyed us a lot.  Towards the end of our lunch, we noticed a storm cloud heading our way.  And wanting to beat the cloud, we rushed to put all the food away.  But we weren't so lucky.  The storm got to us and drenched us.  It rained, and towards the end, it hailed down hard on us.  Just saying it wasn't a fair race.  We had to go up a mountain pass while the storm stayed at a steady elevation while crossing across the sky.
When we got to Hot Sulphur Springs, we had been counting on the convenience store being open to get dinner, but the store was closed. So we were heading back when a woman stopped us and asked us some questions. Then we asked if there were any restaurants; she said no. She then offered to make us something and told us that she'd wander around the campsite to find us.
We checked out the hot springs but decided to camp.
Once we got to our campsite, we just stood there miserably.  It was raining, and we didn't want to set up the tent in the rain.  The rain did stop, and the woman came by with a guy she was visiting.
The woman told us she had done the Trans Am by herself and was moving from Oregon to North Carolina then. Along her trip, she had a problem with her bike and met a guy in Hot Sulphur Springs who offered to help in any way. She wanted to try to fix her own problem, but in the end, she called the guy, and he drove her to the next town.
After a delicious, warm dinner, we walked to a general store, talked to the cashier, and ate our dessert.  We went back to the campsite and started to blow up our sleeping pads.  But since the blowup pump's battery was dying, Henry couldn't fill his all the way.  So, Henry and I had a race to see who could blow up our sleeping pads first.  With Henry's sleeping pad already having air and greater lung capacity than I, he won.  It also didn't help that I laughed and let out half the air I breathed.
