Our campsite for the night

Riding along the river on the Idaho border

First mountain climb of the day

We woke up early, motivated by how hot that day would be.  It was supposed to get up to ninety-two degrees in the afternoon, and with two big hills, one in the morning and the other in the late afternoon, we didn't want to stay out in the sun any more than necessary.   With a ten-mile mountain to start out with, we climbed over two thousand feet in elevation.
Once on the other side of the mountain, the rest of the ride was slow uphill.  The night before, we were looking at the map, and in Cambridge, there were two options to travel: we could take a busy main road or a bike trail.  The bike trail we decided to take would've cut five miles off our route.  Well, the trail was all gravel, so we followed along the bike trail to see it turned into pavement.  The road we were on, too, turned to gravel, and after about half a mile, we realized it wasn't worth it and turned around to get back on the main road.  After breaking for a quick lunch, we headed off again.
We passed the farmlands and climbed our last mountain towards the end of the journey. We made it to our campsite in New Meadows by four. Our campsite for the night was a public park right by the main road with no trees nearby, so anyone passing by could see us. With Henry's knees hurting and me having a bad cold, we decided to take the rest of the day easy.
We called a lady named Diane, who told us that camp was free for the night.  Diane came over to the park later, handed us a pamphlet, and told us how she was connected to New Meadows.  It turns out that she's a tourist guide and sheriff, on the city council board, and has a few other jobs.
Henry went to look for a grocery store while I went to find a coffee shop for wifi, but then Henry returned without groceries.  Since we had no food, we went to a bar and ate there. We also got Wi-Fi for blogging.  Henry went to a convenience store and bought ice cream for dessert and Cheerios for breakfast.  Later, we saw father and son unloading tree trunks into a driveway.  When we talked to them, it turned out that the son had a job at a lumber company and had the leftover dead tree trunks for his dad to have wood for the winter so he could heat up his house.  We set up the tent but couldn't find the stakes.  It turns out that they were put in the actual tent itself instead of the stake bag.
